GREENEU: Green transition against COVID19 and climate crisis

GREENEU: Green Transition against COVID-19 and Climate Crisis

The GREENEU: Green Transition against COVID-19 and Climate Crisis project represents a European network of cities that was created in response to the current environmental and social crisis facing Euorpe. Therefore, GREENEU stems from a desire to create an international environment for debate and reflection on the environmental and social future of the European context. With this in mind, young people - as those greatly affected by the current crisis - are strongly encouraged to encourage reflection aimed at better understanding its causes and effects. To this end, GREENEU will serve to give a voice to all young Europeans who feel the need to promote active participation in their communities, while also supporting a local approach to environmental issues.

Main activities

The GREENEU project involves promoting an international debate within which young people from 8 different countries will work together for 24 months and analyze the causes, consequences and possible alternatives to build a better future for Europe.

The goal of this project is therefore to help encourage young people to civic participation in their communities, stimulating them to open a dialogue and develop a sustainable strategy at the local level. Young citizens from each area will work with experts (university professors, bloggers, journalists, etc.) to learn about European green strategies, EU policies in response to the COVID19 crisis and their possible promotion at the local level.

To this end, participation structures will be set up at the European level (through the various international events) and at the local level (through volunteering), with the aim of creating a dissemination of knowledge useful for improving the skills of all those involved.

Specifically, the specific objectives of the GREENEU project include:

- Raise awareness among young Europeans about their role in major EU policies and challenges, particularly the crisis caused by COVID19 and the climate crisis;

- Increasing knowledge of major European challenges;

- Increase the civic awareness of young Europeans and their engagement in local communities to overcome the current crises.

- To help disseminate and publicize European policies on the environment and climate change.

With the above objectives in mind, the project has been designed as a "journey of self-discovery" that will be based on:

- 3 international events representing the "question phase" where participants will discuss Climate Change, impact of Covid19 and European strategies;

- 3 events representing the "building phase" where participants will define ideas on solutions and contributions to the green transition, including reflecting on how to overcome the current COVID19 crisis in Europe;

- 2 events representing the "outreach phase" in which participants will act within society, promoting the values and ideas gained, regarding the EU Green Deal and the future of Europe.
